carn wheelers going strong in round 2 of xmtb spring league series

23 Feb 2015

Round 2 of the XMTB McConvey cycles spring league took place on Sunday the 22nd of February with as always a strong showing of Carn Wheelers in all categories . As always the racing started with the youth categories the first rider to the line was Eimer Skelly and coming of the back of a great result last week she was full of confidence for the challenge ahead but as sometimes happens in mtb racing Eimar had a crash on the first lap and was unable to finish the race we wish Eimar better luck for the next round on sunday . In the U10 boys race Travis Harkness and Curtis Neill were on the line and both riders stormed round with Travis taking 3rd place and Curtis 9th in what is becoming a very strong class well done to both riders ,next were the U12 riders with Katie Neill and Sara Doyle competing and both girls are continuing to dominate the early season with another 1,2 for Carn with Katie taking 1st and Sara 2nd .Another rider showing great early season form is Darcey Harkness who following last weeks win made it 2 in a row this after just having to move up to the u14 class shows great promise for the coming season moving onto the U14 boys and yet again another very impressive performer Niall Skelly followed last weeks 3rd place finish with another strong performance and another 3rd place Niall is really focused on the season ahead and his early form shows his desire and commitment to do well.last of our youth riders this week was Niamh Skelly who not to be outdone by the younger girls took her 2nd victory in 2 weeks Niamh has continued to work hard at her racing and is now getting the results to go with her hard work .I would like to congratulate all the youth riders on the tremendous results to date and also thanks to their parents who encourage and take the kids to these events they are a credit to the club in every way.

As the day progressed it was now time for the big hitters to dust themselves down and prepare for what truly was a muddy battle such were the conditions .The B race was first up and Darryl Mullan was the champing at the bit following last weeks podium finish and his confidence was high as the race progressed it was to prove another great week for Darryl as he secured another fine 3rd place finish .

The next races were the A race and the junior race in the A race Tomas Mcelwee and Darren Mulholland were taking part both riders rode superbly well in the terrible conditions and secured top 10 finishes with Tomas coming home in 7th and Darren coming home in 10th. Our final competitor of the day was rising star Sean Bradley who has continued to impress on every outing over the last 18 months and is constantly at the top end of things pushing his competitors to the maximum in every race and this week was to be no exception as Sean followed last weeks 2nd place with a magnificent 1st place this week in what Sean described as very hard and tricky conditions .

A big well done to everyone who took part on Sunday hopefully this week will prove just as successful but most of all enjoyable for everyone .
