CX Ulster Championships - Drum Manor Forest Park, Cookstown

Carn Wheelers are holding the CX Ulster CycloCross Championship for the third year in a row in 2014!  On Sunday the 14th of December the club prepares to host the championship again in the splendor of Drum Manor forest just outside Cookstown.  The course still contains the obstacle ridden grass field and fast flowing fire road sections for plenty of overtaking opportunities if you have the legs for it!  This year prizes will be given to podium places from the series sponsor Chain Reaction Cycles, also overall winners from the series will be presented with their awards along with the championship presentations. 

 

There will be separate courses for the Under 6s, 8s, 10s and 12s with the main course being used for Under 14s up to seniors.   There will be a mountain bike support race as well.  The format for the championship races will follow the same format as the national championships due to be held in January 2015.

 

The Ulster Championship only affects the A race not the support races.  The cyclo-cross championship is an open event, Carn Wheelers welcomes all entries to the race from both inside and outside Ulster.  The prizes for the cyclo-cross race are as per the Ulster series, there will be the additional prizes of the Ulster medals for the following categories:


·      Top 3 Ulster elite male

·      Top 3 Ulster elite female  


·      Top 3 Ulster M40 males

·      Top 3 Ulster M50 males

·      Top 3 Ulster MW females

·      Top 3 Ulster espoir males 


·      Top 3 Ulster Junior male 


·      Top 3 Ulster Women

·      Ulster Team prize.

Ulster championship medals will only be awarded to riders who satisfy the following criteria:


·      They belong to a club based in Ulster

·      They are unattached but currently resident in Ulster

Other points of note include:

·      Juniors are those born in 1995 or 1996.

·      Veterans (those aged 40 or over) must identify themselves at the sign on.

·      Club colour’s must be worn

·      Team prize will be awarded to the 1st 3 riders from an Ulster club crossing the finish line in the men's A' race.  



To qualify for the championship categories riders must have a full or restricted competition licence.  Riders cannot qualify for the championship category races using a day licence.  Riders wishing to compete in the championship categories who have a club competition licence can upgrade their licence on the day.

Full day licences and upgrade licences (from non-competition and club competition) are available for non-championship support races (youth, MTB, cyclo-cross B' race).  A day licence will cost £17/€20 and an upgrade to club licence £9/€10.

 

Online registration is now open via www.ulstercyclocross.com.  Everyone is encouraged to pre-register however registration will be available on the day.  Anyone who wishes to compete in the championship race MUST pre-register.  Sign on will open at 9:30am.

 

Start times for races are as follows:

·      10:30 Under 6s fun race


·      10:40 Under 8s


·      10:50 Under 10s


·      11:05 Under 12s


·      11:30 Under 16s


·      11:30 MTB support males


·      11:30 MTB Support females 


·      11:30 Under 14s


·      12:52 Cyclo-cross B' race


·      12:52 Cyclo-cross females race


·      12:50 Cyclo-cross A' race

 

If the pre-entries exceed 30 in the A and B races the A race will start at 13:50

 

Prize giving will happen at the following times;


·      Under 6, Under 8s, Under 10s and Under 12s - 11:20.


·      Under 14, Under 16, MTB support males & females - 5 minutes after the last rider has crossed the line - approx. 12:30.


·      Cyclo-cross race - 5 minutes after the last rider has crossed the line.

 

All competitors will be well looked after on the day with free refreshments, car parking, toilets, changing rooms, showers & bike wash

 

To get to the race venue from Cookstown take the A505 Drum Road towards Omagh.  The entrance to the forest is on your left hand side 3 miles from junction in Cookstown.
 From Omagh travel towards Cookstown and the forest will be on your right hand side approximately 22 miles from Omagh.
