Ulster CX round 2 at Fall Park

Round 2 of this seasons ulster cyclocross league was held a Falls Park in Belfast in what could only be described as perfect conditions with firm ground and sunshine overhead it all led to a fantastic day out for riders and spectators .

As always the club were well represented in all categories from the youth to senior riders . 

As the racing got under way Carn Wheelers didn't have to wait long for the first podium with Callum Lockhart taking 1st place in the under 6 fun race with Jay Gibson also doing well and finishing 7th , our next competitors were James Russell, Riley Gibson and Rhys Lockhart all 3 boys had a great race with Rhys and Riley taking 9th and 10th and James coming home strongly also .In the under 12 boys race Travis Harkness recovered from a hard crash to take 4th with Curtis Neill in 5th also having very strong races were Frank and Tom Russell with Frank in 9th and Tom 11th .

The racing then moved to the full cyclocross course for the remainder of the afternoon and the under 14 were first away and in the boys race Ryan Skelly took a great 3rd place and in the girls race Katie Neill just missed the podium and took 4th place also running alongside the under 14s was the under 16 race and Niall Skelly continued his return to racing with a 9th place finish and in the girls race Darcy Harkness proved the strongest of the Carn Wheelers girls coming home in 3rd with Sarah Elder in 4th and Anna Russell in 5th 

In the women Cyclocross race 1st year Junior Emma Elder was our only rider and had another strong finish in  just her 2nd adult race and was again first unplaced junior girl .

The 2nd win for the Lockhart family came in the mountain bike support race with Dean improving on last weeks 3rd place with a start to finish win this week and well done to Kieran Boyle who had a strong finish in his first mtb race .

Nigel Gibson Rodney Young and Ryan O'Reilly were once again on the line for the b race with a field of 87 riders as you can imagine there was lots of elbows out on the start line as always the 3 men gave their all with Nigel best placed this week in 10th place with Rodney and Ryan finishing strongly .

The last race of the day was the A race with Joe McCrory Gareth Skelly Shea Gribben and Shane Elder taking part .Once again their was a big field of 74 riders and all 4 men gave it their best shot Joe was best placed on the day for Carn Wheelers with Shane ,Shea and Gareth all finishing well on a really fast days racing .

It just remains for us to pass on our thanks to hosts for the day V C Glendale for a great days racing and hospitality and as always well done to all club members who took part .
