ulster cyclocross league round 2

19 Oct 2015

County Fermanagh and the  Necarne Estate in Irvinestone was the venue for the 2nd round of the Ulster Cyclocross league and as always the Carn Wheelers were out in force 24 riders from under 6 to senior riders for the youth riders it was the usual early start with the under 6 race first of and Callum Lockhart on the line for his 2nd race and when the dust had settled he had bagged another top 10 with a 7th place finish, things the moved on to the under 8 race with Patrick Elliott and James Russell involved Patrick had a super race to finish 3rd with James edging ever closer with a brilliant 8th place on a very tough course ,in the under 10 race Rhys Lockhart overcame some early trouble to finish just outside the top 10 it was then onto the under12 race and Carn Wheelers had 4 riders in the top 10 with Travis Harkness best placed in 4th place then Curtis Neill in 5th then Frank Russell in 8th with brother Tom rounding out the top 10. In the under 14 race Ryan Skelly had a nasty crash while chasing a podium finish and was unable to continue in the girls race Sarah Elder finished 2nd and Katie Neill came 3rd with Darcy Harkness coming home 6th.In the under 16 girls race Anna Russell rode superbly well to take 2nd place with Emma Elder coming home in 4th place .

In the mtb support race Darryl Mullan and Dean Lockhart were taking part Darryl had a fantastic 6th place finish but for the 2nd race in succession Dean had a mechanical and was unable to finish the race bad luck Dean.

It was then time for the Cyclocross B race with Gareth Skelly ,Rodney Young and Ryan O'Reilly taking part

this was Ryan's first cross race and unfortunately he had no luck when his chain got jammed around his chain ring causing his early retirement from the race there was better luck for Rodney and Gareth with both men showing there are improving week on week with 2 strong results .

Now it was the turn of the A race with the Walsh brothers Barry Russell Johnny Taylor and Shane Elder taking part as with previous rounds the early pace was very fast with the field quickly stringing out as the strong men put the hammer down but as always the Carn men were holding their own with Stephen Walsh again coming home with a strong finish followed closely be Johnny and Barry with Ryan and Shane a little further back .

Well done to all riders on another superb effort as always and thanks to Lakeland cc for hosting a great race

in a new and excellent venue .
